about

The first song of the album was conceived of as a powerful blast of energy which feeds into the subsequent tracks, the idea coming from its original title, Sun. The chosen name, Origin, refers to the origin of Achenar’s music, as almost all of the sounds heard in the track were created on the Amiga computer back in 1993. Data files were loaded in as samples and the most ‘musical’ of the noises produced were saved and then used over a decade later, their old-school 8-bit nature lending an extra grittiness to the overall sound.

As the harshest and most musically abstract song on the album, Origin also functions as an early yardstick for the listener, with the rest of the tracks being more accessible. The constant give and take of this heavy/soft dynamic is accompanied by the changing balance of organic and electronic sounds. This, combined with the variation of melody, rhythm and texture throughout, allows the album to become one single musical journey.
