The themes behind the lyrics are current advances in medical science and their implications for the future of humanity. The first two lines directly refer to embryonic stem cell research, though in a neutral fashion, neither endorsing nor criticising. The ultimate goal of such technologies are to allow the body to completely regenerate itself and in doing so, eliminate aging.

In the meantime, infirmities will be ever reduced and life-spans will continue to extend. This means a variety of things for civilisation when combined with other social factors. The ones dealt with here though, are personal fulfillment through experience and the evolution of the species through technology instead of solely by reproduction.

The final two lines use the metaphor of the regenerating lizard’s tail to issue a warning against the possible consequences of altering such elemental biology.

The song title is slightly obscure; in English, the word ‘survive’ has dual meanings, the lesser used version being to outlive someone. Applying this to yourself, it becomes an instruction: “Fulfil yourself to truly live.” When viewed in the light of the future implied by the lyrics, this becomes especially important.
